I am having trouble. I got a referral from my primary doctor to go to a pain clinic, but my insurance doesn't have anyone within 30 miles of me, so they said they'd approve someone outside the network. But I've called probably 7 or 8 different places (some of them more than once when I got transferred around) and the places I've found either a. don't accept outpatients (inpatient only - hospitals) or b. refuse to even consider taking the approval from my insurance.

I don't know what to do, and with the weather changing, I'm in a lot more pain than usual. Does anyone have any ideas?

Contact your insurance company's customer service line. They should be able to help you find someone who accepts their payments.

Best wishes to you.

What, exactly, do you mean by "pain clinic"?

If you mean an intensive program that lasts a couple of weeks, in which case it might be worth a bit of travel. I know the Mayo Clinic, for example, has, in addition to the fibro clinic, an outpatient pain program (you come in for a few hours every day for two weeks). It's a few states over, but if things are that bad, it could well be worth the investment.

If you mean something like a rheumatologist, I'd suggest calling your primary doctor and asking for... well, a referral. (Not the insurance paperwork kind, but a specific suggestion of where to go.)

Wow. I can't believe you call yoluserf a bad mom What you wrote in your first paragraph I can relate to, and more this week and the past few than I'd like to. I work from home and I that's about all I've been able to do except go to the dr. You should applaud yoluserf, and I mean a standing ovation!! You are amazing and just because you don't do what the other moms do doesn't make you any less of a mom. Lord have mercy! You are going above like WAY above and beyond under the worst circumstances. And as we know, these are the circumstances we call our lives. We never know when a flare is going to hit, or if we'll have a good or bad day. Please, give yoluserf a break. Be kind to yoluserf and if you want to compare yoluserf to anyone be fair and compare yoluserf to people living under the same conditions. You rock! Have a better day tomorrow. Each day allows us a new beginning.Take care.Tamiko
